Welcome to Living Way's May Newsletter. This month we have a look at the training in entrepreneurship that
we ran for six entrepreneurs. This is an exciting time in Living Way's history and we feel privileged to be a
part of it. God bless and chat soon.
Entrepreneur Development
The week of 21st to 25 April saw the first group of Living Way entrepreneurs going through
the Microplanner course from the South African Institute for Entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurs
Vusi Simelane, Khumi Morare, Vuyani Bushula, Mfundiso Ngetu, Patience Booi and Washington
Kanyama attended the training at King of Kings Baptist.
The training is based on a business simulation game as a vehicle for learning business
principles. This game was played in teams, with all having a chance to be manufacturers or
retailers. Following each round of the game, reflective debriefing was held to bring learning
experiences closer to home. Each round of the game became progressively more complicated as
new principles and tools were learnt and incorporated into the game.
By having a business simulation, the participants were able to experiment with new
strategies and 'test' out new skills and tools in a safe environment. In this way, the
training was both fun and challenging. The topics covered included: strategy, to market
research, production techniques, pricing one's products, knowing ones' customers and
competitors amongst many others. Each entrepreneur is at a different stage in their business
life and was eager to learn these concepts to grow their business and make it more sustainable.

Even when you couldn’t pay the rent!
Many thanks to the South African Institute for Entrepreneurship
(www.entrepreneurship.co.za) for both the
material we used as well as the support they gave in our delivery of this course.
The next steps for these entrepreneurs include weekly support meetings to examine and
refine how these principles are being implemented within their businesses as well as being
paired with an experienced business mentor. This is an exciting time in Living Way's history
as we get to observe how these business owners grow from strength to strength.
