Worker Readiness School

Training people in skills does not guarantee they will be good employees.  In consultation with different businesses, it became evident that there is a need for skills, along with the right attitude. Businesses want to have employees that are reliable, on time, hygienic, respectful, have good work habits and can be trusted.  Through the Living Way Worker Readiness School, we believe that we can meet that need.  Students on the Living Way Campus go through this school concurrently with their skills training.

The Worker Readiness School has three components:

WorkLife: The ethical and moral compass.  What does God say about work? How do you manage your time?  The Biblical basis for managing your money.  Basic labour law. What does your employer expect of you?

All of these things are critical in preparing someone for the world of work.  Having these 'soft' skills will give each graduate an edge in both securing a job as well as moving up within the organisation.

The Pacific Institute: Unemployment and poverty have a terrible effect on people's self esteem and worth.  It robs them of their dreams for the future.  No longer are people thinking about what they want to do and be in a few years' time - it is all about today and tomorrow.

Training from the Pacific Institute, adapted for the South African context by Grassroots, is critically important in raising people's self-worth and their ability to dream for the future.  We believe this change of mindset and attitude that will give people new purpose and direction for their lives.

Foundational Skills: Employers look for people with multiple skills: not just the core skills for their business, but also other basic skills that are necessary in the work place. For example, having entry-level computer skills can open doors within companies for any employee.

The Foundation Skills programme focuses on basic skills. Our English classes are hugely popular and basic computer training has proven to be a much sought after course. How to write a resume and what to expect in an interview situation will also be covered.  These courses will expand as employers indicate what skills are necessary.
